Daniel Joseph Peacock, 78, of Culpeper, VA passed away at UVa. Medical Center Monday, March 31, 2014. Dan was born in Waukesha, WI March 14, 1936 to George C. and Mildred Finley Peacock. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Economics from St. Michael's College (Winooski, VT) in 1959 and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter from the University of Richmond in 1972. He served seven years in the Naval Reserves. He loved the Virginia Cavaliers and the New York Yankees.

Daniel Joseph Peacock, 78, of Culpeper, VA passed away at UVa. Medical Center Monday, March 31, 2014. Dan was born in Waukesha, WI March 14, 1936 to George C. and Mildred Finley Peacock. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Economics from St. Michael's College (Winooski, VT) in 1959 and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter from the University of Richmond in 1972. He served seven years in the Naval Reserves. He loved the Virginia Cavaliers and the New York Yankees.
Dan began his career with Aetna Casualty and Surety as an underwriter trainee upon graduation from St. Michael's. He continued with Aetna until 1972 and ended as a Marketing Manager for the Richmond Branch. He purchased General Insurance Agency of Culpeper in 1972 and retired in 1997, although he continued to work part-time for Cabell Insurance Agency, which purchased General Insurance Agency. Dan was also one of the first appointed sales agents for Pre-paid Legal Services in Virginia and this became his "second career" after retirement. As a very successful businessman, Dan was recognized numerous times in his career, but most notably he received the Eagle Award from the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia and the Chairman's Award for the Virginia Legislative Independent Insurance Agent's "I Day". Dan was a leader and a mentor to so many individuals in the insurance community. Although always a salesman first, he lived by the motto to serve others.
Dan's community activities included Culpeper Jaycees, Past President of Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Culpeper Country Club, Past President of Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia, Past Co-Chairman of Rappahannock Parks and Recreation Commission, Past Chairman of the Piedmont United Way, and former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Precious Blood Catholic Church Council. Dan was most proud of his brotherhood of Knights and served as Co-Chair for the Knight's charity KOVAR which raises funds for mentally challenged individuals. Dan has been a faithful member of Precious Blood Catholic Church since 1972 when he moved to Culpeper.
Surviving Mr. Peacock is his devoted wife of 55 years, Marcia A. Peacock ; his children, Stephen M. Peacock and his wife Lisa Shell Peacock, Lyn-Ellen P. Allen and her husband Paul J. Allen, Maureen P. Scholz and her husband David and Amy R. Miller; his grandchildren, Erin Shell Peacock, Daniel Stephen Peacock, Theodore Nicholas Maass, III, Carl Alexander Maass, Caroline Hunter Maass and Nathan Miller Scholz and his siblings, Martha Galloway, Anne Duclos, George Peacock, Mildred McDermott and Stephanie Rydelek. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Kissel.
Funeral services will be held in Precious Blood Catholic Church Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. Mr. Peacock's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be private at a later date.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 4, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Clore-English Funeral Home. There will be a rosary service beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to KOVAR, care of The Knights of Columbus, Precious Blood Catholic Church, or to the American Diabetes Association.
